rsync
Following some advice from rsync - exclude files and folders article on slicehost I set up an exclude file that lists the files that I do not want to backup with rsync, thus the new Improved version:
port:fred ~> rsync -avz --exclude-from '/home/fred/rsync_exclude.txt' /home/fred/ rsync://filestore/backup/fred/port$Id: dates.htm,v 1
